This jacket shines in those situations because it provides a lot of insulation and warmth when you need it, but it packs down small in your seat bag when you don't need it. The outer layer is a fabric you've seen on some high-end down jackets from some big brands. We like it because it's so light yet it keeps the wind out. Then on the inside, Polartec Alpha Direct is the lightest, most packable, and highest-wicking insulation available. It's warm like a synthetic down but doesn't require an inner layer that would reduce breathability and add weight. If you're looking for just one jacket to do it all, start here. We used our lightest GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER three-layer stretch fabric, which makes it great for milder conditions, and the stretch gives it a great fit. It's the same outer fabric as we use for our Alpha RoS 2 Jacket, called "The benchmark in how the best winter jackets should perform" by Cyclingnews.com, but the Go Jacket forgoes the Alpha's integrated liner so you can decide how much insulation you need. Add a Flanders Warm base layer and thermal jersey to extend the comfort range to subfreezing temperatures. But the fabric is only the start. We've tailored the fit to be close to body but not too close. It gives a good drape to the jacket, rounded out by details like the no-sew finishing to the hem and the zippered colored chest pocket. The hidden internal cuffs are a nice comfort touch, and you'll appreciate how they eliminate drafts from the wrist. There are three pockets on the back, with a large reflective strip stretching across the entire bottom of the pockets for nighttime visibility. Where does this jacket fit in our line? We've added panels on the sides and the sleeves in a very high-stretch yet tightly knit fabric that allows us to give the jacket a modern, close-to-body fit for aero gains on any terrain, and it actually keeps more heat in than a jacket that's flapping about. We've kept it very compact so that it can pack away into minimal space in a jersey pocket.
